Industry in San Bernardino, California

Government, retail, and service industries dominate the economy of the City of San Bernardino, although portions of the City, particularly near California State University and San Bernardino International Airport are dominated by light manufacturing and warehouses.

The world's largest fast food chain, McDonald's, began in San Bernardino in 1940 by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. Their introduction of the "Speedee Service System" in 1948 established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant. McDonald's restaurants are found in 120 countries and territories around the world and serve nearly 54 million customers each day.

New industrial development is occurring near the San Bernardino International Airport, and San Bernardino is seeing much growth along its south-end focused on Hospitality Lane.

The median income for a household in the city is $31,140, and the median income for a family is $33,357.
